White Oak Strip Flooring.

​  White Oak, which can be found in many homes throughout the Philadelphia region,  has a beautiul grain and warm charachter which can be brought out with a simple clear finish. Floor layers in the first half of the 20th century would often add a border and Walnut feature strip to these floors. Another added touch was the 'knot' in the corners of the room, which could be ordered from places like Sears Robuck.  Also note the before and after in the photoset. Floors which have been under carpet for years covered in paint and spackle, can be brought back to their original beauty, with proper sanding.

Brazilian Cherry

Brazilian cherry floors, a very hard material, which in this case was used sparingly in an 'engineered' floor. A judicious thickness of the hardwood is married to a plywood base, which allows the material to then be glued directly to concrete, as it was in this case. This floor came 'unfinished', and was sanded in place, after installation. The advantage to this process is the flexibility we were allowed to achieve the color desired to match the furniture.

Re Sawn Chestnut

​Wood siding and beams were salvaged from barns slated for demolition. To prevent the flooring from absorbing moistures after installation,  the back side was sealed, as pictured. The final finish was achieved with a LEED certified low VOC finish from Denmark.

Repairing Termite Damage

This required removing the radiator, damaged flooring, cabinetry, flooring subfloor etc. Actually went pretty well. The homowner was able to stay at home. I think the key to a job like this is to have other tades- in this case, a plumber- who one can count on to keep the flow of work on schedule.
